AI for Good Global Summit

The AI for Good Global Summit 2024 took place on 30–31 May 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with around 40 UN agencies and co-convened with the Government of Switzerland. It’s one of the largest global platforms for discussing how AI can help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

🔹 Key Talks & Panels

  • Presentations from leaders in government, industry, and the UN system outlining AI’s potential in sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, and disaster response. 

🔹 AI Standards and Policy

  • A unified framework for AI standards was promoted by ITU, ISO (International Organization for Standardization), and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), focusing on actionable guidelines for multimedia authenticity (e.g., watermarking and deepfake detection). 

🔹 Launch of the AI for Good Impact Initiative

  • A new initiative aiming to scale AI solutions globally and support regional action, accelerators, competitions, and policy guidance for sustainable development. 

🔹 AI Governance Reports and Tools

  • ITU and UNESCO launched a compilation of 400+ AI projects by 47 UN agencies across all 17 SDGs and began a long-term report effort to inform decision-makers leveraging global expert knowledge.

It served as a direct bridge between AI innovators and policy-makers working toward the SDGs.
